Our story at a glance

While teaching in Bradford for three years, Dr. Abdulrahman Mkia (ALC’s Founder) saw students struggling. They knew grammar but couldn’t hold a real conversation. Often, classes weren’t taught by native speakers, leaving learners disconnected from how Arabic is truly spoken.

He founded ALC to bridge that gap—to teach Arabic the way it’s lived, not just memorised. This commitment to authenticity led us to a key partnership with Akdem Istanbul, Turkey’s premier language education center. Today, we teach their celebrated Miftah Al-Arabiyya curriculum, and upon completing each level, our students receive official certificates issued directly from the Akdem headquarters in Istanbul.

From the very first ALC Arabic class in Bradford in 2014, with just a small group of students, our family has grown to reach over 200 learners. Throughout this journey, we’ve been proud to support them with an amazing team of experienced native teachers—all dedicated to this proven, life-like approach to mastering Arabic.

What is Unique About ALC?

Native Arabic Teachers

All our teaching staff are native Arabic speakers with over 5 years of teaching experience. Our staff are also fluent in English, to allow efficient communication with students.

A Curriculum That Speaks Your Language

We are proud to partner with Akdem Istanbul, premier experts in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers. This collaboration is important to us, as it allows us to offer you their renowned Miftah Al-Arabiyah curriculum—a complete, CEFR-aligned program from Introductory to Advanced levels. All official certificates of completion are issued directly from the Akdem Istanbul headquarters.

Balanced Skills Acquisition

Moving beyond a sole focus on grammar, our curriculum ensures you acquire a practical balance of all essential skills: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. We integrate the necessary grammar with cultural awareness, empowering you to confidently converse in Modern Standard Arabic on diverse, everyday topics. This holistic approach is the foundation for genuine, usable fluency.

Continuous Student Support

At ALC, we offer a wide range of services to support students during their studies:

  • Bursaries to help students with financial difficulties enroll at ALC.
  • Arabic clinics: to help enhance students understanding of the course material and answer questions.

Curriculum

At ALC, we use Miftah Al-Arabiyya, a curriculum provided by Akdem Istanbul Academy, Turkey. It is developed by renowned scholars of the Arabic language. The curriculum varies in difficulty between Introductory, Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced levels to deliver the material needed to understand everyday Arabic.
